Daily Sign Post: The Mind Is A Powerful Thing

Someone asked me today the key to being positive and happy in life. This is the foundation:

“The mind is a powerful thing and its power can be used to make us happy or miserable. We can concentrate on how the world has done us wrong or the ways it does us right. We can focus on where we're stuck or how we're free. We can take the opportunity to notice the ordinary miracles around us. We can find ways to truly enjoy, even to relish, the moments of our lives.” -M.J. Ryan, “The Happy Makeover”

This isn't necessarily easy to accomplish, with the laundry list of things you may need to shift your mindset about, so it's also very important to have patience with yourself. Patience that allows you to realize that, even if you stray from the path of positivity, all you have to do is start again. With time you'll see the difference in your overall outlook on life, you'll understand the power of your thoughts, and you'll find it easier to maintain control of your thoughts, your feelings, and your happiness.

“The trick to not thinking is not adding energy to the equation in an effort to forcibly stop thinking from happening. It’s more a matter of subtracting energy from the equation in order not to barf the thoughts up and start chewing them over again.”

Daily Sign Post: Creating Karma

“Your thoughts, your words, and your deeds all create karma. And so through practice, you learn how to create better karma, and then everything about your life changes.”

Well, it’s been a very wild 25 years! Yes, I’m officially going to be 1/4 century old tomorrow. It’s crazy to think that I’ve been on the earth this long. To some I may be a youngin’ still, but aren’t we all realistically? This I know for sure…I’m in for a great life ahead of me. I’m living a great life. I’m living life! I’ve changed a lot in the past year, and you know what? It’s because finally things are making sense. My thinking has changed. My awareness has changed. I’m excited for more years ahead of this ever-changing journey.

Daily Sign Post: SMiLE

SMILE!
Try it. Try smiling for no reason. Smile at a stranger, smile at a friend, smile at a coworker. Yes, this may feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but once you see the positive impact it will have on your mood and the moods of those you’re smiling at, it’ll all be worth it!

Daily Sign Post: Be inspired and inspire others

I came across a quote in the book I’m currently reading (A New Earth) about how if you feel like something is lacking in your life (money, praise, etc.) the way to start receiving is start giving. I started practicing this consciously the past week and it’s been working great.

It sometimes seems like people aren’t friendly and nice to strangers on a daily basis, which is sad, so I’ve started being overly friendly whenever I meet new people. Im genuine about it, of course, because I truly love people! I even try and say hello to people even if I just pass them on the sidewalk. I’ve held doors for people, let people cut me in line at the store, and other little things that had no adverse effect on my life, but made the day a little brighter for the other person. Each time I have done one of these “nice gestures” it instantly puts a smile on the person’s face. Mission accomplished. So of course as my life has seemed to be going lately, I found another reminder, outside of my book, of this little kindness journey I’ve been on the past week.

I encourage you to try it, I promise you’ll see a difference..in your life and someone else’s.

Daily Sign Post: There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever. -Dalai Lama XIV

This weekend was great! I went to meditation practice yesterday (Sunday) with a friend who’s been going for the past few months. I’ve always wanted to go, but my skepticism of organized spiritual/religious groups that aren’t necessarily “main stream” held me back. Well, meditation was amazing! There was no religious undertone to the practice, but instead it was a time to focus on the moment and get in touch with my body and spirit through breathing and movements that were intended to clear the mind of thoughts. I know I was meant to sweat it out a bit before practicing formally, which was perfect because it allowed me to read into and find an understanding of awareness on my own. Now, I have found a place and people who are on the same journey that I’ve found myself. Things are happening in my life without me trying to push things along. My practice is paying off and showing results, things take time.

Have you honestly tried to stop trying so hard? Stop getting consumed by the society in which we exist and instead enjoy the moment you have because in a blink of an eye that moment will pass you by. Doing this is hard at first and takes continuous practice to incorporate into your everyday life, but it pays off…trust me.

It is so very important not to regret your past or to think that the time that’s passed has been time wasted. It all happened for a reason, even if you can’t see it yet, but you will…hopefully sooner than later. Hakuna matata. <3 Happy Tuesday
