The words are no more than sign posts. That to which they point is not to be found within the realm of thought, but a dimension within yourself that is deeper and infinitely vaster than thought.

I just bought a new organic tea and was pleasantly surprised when I saw they had quotes on the tea bag string! My first tea had a great quote that fits perfectly with my life situation right now. I look forward to drinking more of this tea!

I had a great Friday. The weather b-e-a-utiful, duh. What started my day off so well was the lady doctor. Yes, the lady doctor. I read “The Power of Patience” while waiting for the doctor (15 minute delay…) and when I saw the nurse and the doctor I was able to share my vegetarian-gone-vegan-lost-30-pounds story. The nurse even asked for my website URL! Then, I watched Hungry for Change with my pseudo vegan friend, Bess. That’s where I heard the best quote…one the explains my journey thus far and what I really want people to understand…

I really love this quote. It’s been a ride since August being a vegetarian gone pseudo vegan and there’s definitely been a lot of bumps along the way. There are people who completely disagree with the lifestyle I’ve chosen who can’t look further than their own viewpoint to see how this change has positively impacted my life. Luckily, there are an equal (if not a greater) number of people who do understand and are supportive. Those are the people that have helped me stay strong..

Life isn’t always easy. No matter how positive you are, how many smiles you spread, or how many uplifting quotes you share there will always be what seems to be just an down-and-out bad day. But, from those bad days you’ll come to learn, love, and appreciate even more the best days of your life.

I’m unstoppable. I will not let negative thoughts cloud my head today. I will rise above the stress of the office. I will smile no matter how many times I have to remind myself to stay positive. I will rise above it all. I will.

“Never be afraid to be yourself. You are a genuine original, a one of a kind work of art. You are destined for greatness, it’s just a matter of finding out what that is by listening to your inner voice and pursuing your loves and passions. We all have the capacity to do great things. It comes down to believing in yourself and taking the steps to make your dreams a reality. You can do it, we all can!”

I’ve been in Washington, D.C. this past weekend and was pumped to be able to run around the National Mall and take the morning to take in the city, the people, and the b-e-a-utiful weather the weekend was blessed with. Today is my last day, so it was my last morning run. In front of the White House there is a peace vigil that’s been there since 1981. Yes, 1981. And the woman who originally started it, Concepcion Picciotto, still squats there. Talk about dedication, passion, and determination. I stopped and talked to Charles, the man who was squatting while Concepcion took one of her 2 daily breaks, and he told me a bit about the vigil. I’m sure I still don’t know the entire deep-rooted story of the vigil’s beginning, but the message was loud and clear to me…PEACE. So, here’s to Charles, Concepcion, and their fight for peace. May others find passion for something great and fight for it like you have.

“We are not blindly at the mercy of our thoughts, but can make choices as to which attitudes to hold. This doesn’t mean that we won’t slip back into limiting beliefs, if we have them, for by now they are deep grooves in our brains. But each time we find that we have chosen a dead-end though, we can begin again, reminding ourselves of the better options. After all, as Buddhist teacher Yvonne Rand reminds us, ‘An intention to cultivate patience is half the battle.’”

It is so very important not to regret your past or to think that the time that’s passed has been time wasted. It all happened for a reason, even if you can’t see it yet, but you will…hopefully sooner than later. Hakuna matata. <3 Happy Tuesday

I’ve been carrying around mini post it notes and a pen to help spread some positivity. I was inspired by Operation Beautiful, a website that promotes leaving positive notes for strangers in random places. Of course I thought it was such a great idea that I wanted to take part!
I really do think that smiles are contagious and can brighten anyone’s day, even if it’s just for a few seconds, so my notes all start with “SMILE!”. I hope people enjoy them…

I didn’t have time to post yesterday (thank you, Hoboken NJ) but this quote is exactly what I did this past weekend. I wasn’t sure what I had in store for the weekend when I left for the city Friday night. I knew I was about to visit with friends that I don’t see often and I knew that I was going to be partaking in some very fun activities, but I didn’t have any set agenda or expectations. I just let the weekend BE…and it was awesome.

“The practice of patience protects us from losing our composure. In doing that it enables us to exercise discernment, even in the heat of difficult situations. It gives us inner space. And within that space we gain a degree of self-control, which allows us to respond to situations in an appropriate and compassionate manner rather than being driven by our anger and irritation.”

Happy March! This month’s focus in my yoga practice is core, which is a challenge for me. When workouts turn “core” focused I usually get frustrated with my body, struggle to complete the exercises, and many times I simply give up. What I’m going to do now is be patient and listen. I’m going to be patient with my body and take it one practice at a time, knowing that with time I will become stronger. I’m going to listen to my body and know when I can push further and when I should hold off. By patiently listening to my body I’m going to find this so-called core that people speak of. No need to rush anymore..
May you find patience this month in everything you do–your body will thank you in the long run<3
“Given our current lifestyles, we could be experiencing fight-or-flight almost all the time–in traffic, under a tight work deadline, in spats with loved ones–which puts a great deal of strain on our bodies. That’s why cultivating patience is one of the best things we can do for our health. The more we can easily roll with the punches of life and tolerate the quirks of other human beings, the less stress we will experience.”
-M.J. Ryan, The Power of Patience
